I’m planning on breaking up with Facebook. Over the last few years it has become a toxic platform and the news that’s come out since explains why. Even though they make it a policy to fact check advertising, Facebook is allowing political ads that make verifiably false claims to run on the site because money. The Social network is grooming behavior, selling your behavior data against your knowledge and keeps that data for years.
I will probably be leaving Instagram too as they are both owned by the same company, but haven’t made up my mind yet.
In any case, I’m currently revamping this much neglected website to try and use it instead.
I recently purchased the suction mount for GoPro cameras and did a test run on the front of the windshield on the way to the hardware store. Took a mile or two to get some trust in it, but it did well.
A beautiful secluded mountain lake in the heart of the Colorado Rockies located in the Gunnison National Forrest. I’ve been visiting this lake since I was a small kid and my father would take us to visit. Happy to be able to show my son how beautiful Colorado is.
This is probably of interest to no one besides myself, but I finally took the GoPro out for a ride around lake Hefner last week and made this video with over dramatisation of music for the effect of making me look cool.
I used to be better at taking a break at what I was doing, enjoying my surroundings and sometimes capturing it on audio to give me an audio recall of that moment in time. Here are a few examples that I recently came across.
The Birds in the Park, Melbourne Australia, Feb 2009.
A gorgeous small park right next to my apartment had a lot of noises going on from birds much different than you find back in Oklahoma.
I love podcasts. It’s not as much of a commitment as a book, it can be serialized, and they aren’t as depressing as the news. I like having something playing in the background while I work so I’ve vetted many to see what appeals to me. I didn’t mean to make the list in order of preference. But after making it, yea, this is pretty much the order I would rank my top 10.
The New Year brought a trip to the Canadian mountains in Banff. Beautiful landscapes of snow and mountains, despite the -16F temperatures. One of the highlights was probably standing in the middle of the lake or enjoying the hot springs.
Movie historians baffled that critics of the new Star Wars: The Last Jedi were expecting more serious toned literary greatness from the predecessor of a samurai space opera knock-off of Flash Gordon (Seriously, look it up, Lucas wanted to originally do a Flash Gordon movie but couldn’t secure the rights).
A quick road trip to Colorado with my drone proved to give great results on capturing video unlike I’ve been able to back home. Stunning treetops and river runs give a new experience to Colorado that I haven’t enjoyed until now. Some more techniques to learn but this was a good first effort.
