Toyota 4Runner Overhaul

When I came back to Oklahoma in 2009, my original plan wasn’t to stay. I was waiting out the recession then heading back to New York City. I needed a car however and Nikki had an extra one after just buying a new car, so she leased me her 4Runner. After I took the job at Devon and decided to stay in Oklahoma, I bought the 4Runner from her. Since then I’ve had a new air conditioner put into it, all new drive belts, a new thermostat, a new windshield, 2 new lights, Rear brakes and drum replaced, Axel seals repaired, and now all new 16″ (had 15″) tires with all new wheels.

First Real Shave

Nathan and I were treated to straight razor shaves at The Shave Shop on Saturday. A nice treat that was given as a Christmas present, but we are using just after his 16th birthday.

Becoming a Man

You work hard to get things right. You are curious to how things work. You question things and don’t accept faulty logic, even if it goes against the grain of popular opinion. You have a big heart and consider others when making decisions. You look for solutions to conflict and you can admit fault so you can be better next time. You feel pride in your accomplishments and know there’s always more you can do. I’m seriously proud of the man you have become.

Happy 16th Birthday Nathan.

Dear Friend,

“I don’t know if I will have the time to write any more letters, because I might be too busy trying to participate. So, if this does end up being the last letter, I just want you to know that I was in a bad place before I started high school, and you helped me.

New Lighter

I know, it’s a bit silly because I don’t smoke, but I love the simplicity in design of zippo lighters. My dad gave me a zippo once and I recently found it. I didn’t want to lose it so I thought I would get another and zippo has a customization feature on their website.

“I suppose in the end, the whole of life becomes an act of letting go, but what always hurts the most is not taking a moment to say goodbye.”

Brother’s Voyage

My sister visited from Texas. It’s the first time she’s come up from to visit me in Oklahoma since I have come back in 2009. She finally brought my painting she made me years ago, 2006 I think? It was very popular in her studio so I know it was hard for her to part with. It’s a great painting.

Enigma

Yesterday, I heard the orchestral piece Boléro by Ravel. While whistling it in my head later in the day, it evolved into Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl.

About 3:30am last night, I woke up and had to look online because I wanted to know if the Impressionist music period was the same time and influenced by the impressionist art period and tied together in anyway. Turns out, they were. Thanks Wikipedia.

I watched Squidbillies on TV to fall back asleep.

I know, right?

I really don’t know clouds at all

Back in 2005, my father passed away. It was a difficult time for me, more complicated so as my father and I had not been that close towards the end. I was living in Manhattan at the time and had to catch a last min flight back to Oklahoma to make arrangements for the funeral other things.
