Rogue One, A Star Wars Story
Rogue One is the first attempt at spotlighting a side story to the normal Skywalker storyline in a major release. The teasers allowed us to see that it took place around the time of the first Star Wars movie, A New Hope, and that it would involve something to do with the rebellion and the construction of the first Death Star. The acting in this movie was a nice return to the original movies where people spoke with inflection and in a normal manor to each other. We are introduced to new characters and told how they fit into the canon storyline of the movies that we have known for decades. It’s a war movie that takes place on some planets we are familiar with and introduced to a few new ones. It’s a back door look at what was going on while Luke, Han, Leia and the gang all find their purpose to fight against the empire. We are shown for the first time how the fight was more than just them.
I wont spoil it for you, but they did a great job on setting this story in the middle of a childhood memory and fitting it in well. There were plenty of Easter Eggs in the move that make die-hard Star Wars fans take notice and see how this setting ties to the events in the other movies. I wont spoil it for you, but the ending was better than I could have asked for. It let us see some events that let up to the events in Star Wars, A New Hope that helped paint a complete picture.
Go see it. This movie is worth the price of admission. I haven’t decided yet but it may even replace The Empire Strikes Back as my favorite movie in the franchise.
